What happens
Meet your guide
Transport from the resort to Central Park in downtown San Pedro. Meet your guide, a born-and-raised islander who grew up eating at these kitchens. Quick introduction to the four culinary cultures of Belize and the route ahead. Come hungry.
Walk, eat, repeat
Six stops over 2.5 to 3 hours through the back streets of San Pedro. Family-run kitchens serving Maya tacos, Mestizo salbutes, Creole rice and beans, fresh seafood ceviche, fry jacks, and dishes you will not find on any resort menu. At each stop, your guide introduces the cook, explains the dish, and shares the cultural history behind what you are eating. Rum tastings, sugarcane juice, and cashew wine along the way.
Chocolate and return
The tour ends with Belizean chocolate, made from local cacao the Maya called the food of the gods. Transport back to the resort by approximately 2:00 PM. You will have a list of spots to come back to on your own.
