What happens
Takeoff
Meet your pilot at the pickup point. Short safety briefing, then lift off from San Pedro. Within minutes you are over the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world. Waves breaking over the coral are visible from above, and marine life is often spotted in the shallows.
Over the reef and atolls
Fly over Turneffe Atoll, the largest coral atoll in Belize. Pass a historic shipwreck on the reef. Your pilot points out marine creatures below: dolphins, rays, and manatees are commonly spotted from the air. The turquoise shallows give way to deep blue as you approach Lighthouse Reef.
The Blue Hole
The dark blue circle appears. The pilot descends and circles the Blue Hole slowly from both directions so every seat gets an unobstructed view. The scale is staggering from above: 1,000 feet across, 400 feet deep, a perfect dark circle surrounded by the turquoise coral ring of Lighthouse Reef. Hold position. Take the shot. Continue over Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, 10,000 acres of protected marine reserve.
Return
Fly back along the coastline with aerial views of San Pedro and Ambergris Caye. Touch down approximately 1 to 1.5 hours after takeoff.
