What happens
Read the water
Meet at the resort dock at 7:30 AM. Board the panga and run to the flats. Your guide picks the location based on tide, wind, and season. The boat slows, the engine cuts, and the guide climbs onto the poling platform. From here, everything is quiet. You stand on the bow and scan the water.
Spot and cast
Gin-clear water over white sand and turtle grass. Your guide spots a tailing bonefish or a cruising permit before you do. He positions the skiff, calls the distance and direction, and you cast. One clean presentation. The fish eats or it does not. That is flats fishing. Beginners get patient coaching on every cast. Experienced anglers get put on permit.
The fight and release
A hooked bonefish strips line faster than almost any fish in the ocean. Permit fight deep and stubborn. Tarpon explode out of the water. Your guide coaches you through the fight, handles the release, and poles to the next flat. Every fish goes back. That is the law and the tradition.
